Changes to Public Liability Insurance with ASE

ASE offer Public Liability Insurance as a membership benefit.

The is an update (also emailed to members), to make you aware that our insurer, Aviva, made some changes to our insurance cover at the last renewal date.

The insurers (Aviva) have tightened the definition of the nature of our business.  This means that members are now covered specifically for activity that relates to teacher education – ie activity whilst delivering teaching to teachers, technicians and those training to be teachers and technicians, where you are not covered by your institution’s liability insurance. In addition, activities insured are only those which promote excellence in the teaching of science (including provision of continuous professional development for teachers and science educators through events, conferences, webinars and publication of educational materials and resources including books and journals).

The wording of the agreement has taken far longer than we’d like to be approved through the insurers but we are now in a position to update members.

As with all insurance, members are advised to read the full terms and conditions of the policy, to ensure that it covers their needs. This is available from the files section on the insurance web page.

Please also note that the ASE policy is for PUBLIC LIABILITY only and does not cover members for professional indemnity.

We hope that this tighter policy wording will help members to have greater clarity as to what is or is not insured. Please address any immediate questions to membership@ase.org.uk
