New recombined SSR in fresh updated design

Our March edition of SSR* (Issue 393) is now available for members and this edition has some exciting changes.

You will notice that there has been a refresh of the journal design, including the recombination into one edition (from the previously separate ‘in Practice’ and ‘in Depth’), with additional online content.

Our Publications Coordinator Will Hoole notes, ‘SSR has been redesigned to make the journal more engaging and accessible and to support the digital offering of the journal, including longer articles, further reading, resources and multimedia content.'

In this issue…

…Jeremy Thomas evaluates whether the current science curriculum adequately accommodates space-related topics.

….Jon Hale, Katie Nash and Kaela Jones reflect on how they reorganised the GCSE Biology for Combined Science curriculum, positioning ecology at the beginning. In an accompanying online article, they elaborate on the teaching sequence and activities implemented in their introductory unit on ecology.

Also in this issue, you can find ASE President Professor Louise Archer’s Presidential Address, first aired at our Annual Conference in January. Professor Archer discusses factors influencing students’ desire to study STEM subjects post-16, including science identity, capital and field, and how these affect their perception and engagement with science.
