Creative writing and promoting understanding in science: alternative ways to interest students in writing about science

Science writing opportunities are used as a resource to enable students to understand science concepts. This study represents three different writing-to-learn tasks that enable students to learn science and to demonstrate their developing understanding about the human body system. The teacher and students engaged in a variety of science enquiries connected with writing opportunities that worked together to develop student understanding about the human body system.
