Both 'pupil voice' and 'staff voice' can be powerful tools in developing various aspects of a school, but only if there is a strong dialogue between the two. This project used a number of different approaches: questionnaires, lesson observations and planning discussions to investigate pupils' views of what inspires them to learn in science and staff views of what they believe inspires pupils to learn. A number of interesting differences between the responses from staff and pupils were uncovered as well as a number of clear messages about what inspires pupils to learn.
