Two common equations that can be used to calculate the speed of sound in the air are the distance travelled by the sound wave over the total time taken and the wavelength multiplied by the frequency of the sound. In this article, I
apply the latter equation to estimate the speed of sound in the air using ‘Sundanese’ traditional musical instruments and Phyphox, a free smartphone application.
